Happy multicolor alpaca puffs in pink, blue, green and red are hand stiched to this one-of-a-kind soft and snuggly, cognac-colored alpaca sweater.
By selecting this sweater you're not only choosing a beautiful piece of clothing, but you're helping preserve a remarkable and ancient cultural tradition. In the landscapes of the Peruvian Andes, at elevations of 10,000 to 14,000 feet above sea level, thousands of years ago the Incas domesticated the Alpaca.
Alpaca fiber, along with cashmere and silk, is one of the finest fibers in the world. Alpaca is a sheared fiber, never skinned. Native Andean herdsmen humanely shear them every other year at the onset of the rainy season. Alpaca Fiber is 7 times stronger and 3 times warmer than merino wool. The fiber actually contains microscopic air pockets that contribute to the creation of lightweight apparel with very high insulation value. Alpaca is silky against the skin, heavenly smooth to the touch, and is hypoallergenic and lanolin free.
Alqo Wasi works with workshops composed of women from the Puno and Ayacucho regions-- two vulnerable and marginal zones--to develop their skills in order to become more productive and competitive in the labor market. All the materials used and techniques employed emphasize environmental preservation.
Delicate wash in cold water, dry flat.
