Daily Kibble Steps Up - Olive Lends a Paw
In the wake of the Newtown, CT school shootings, Daily Kibble, a NYC-based email newsletter covering pet trends and products, rolled out the 26 Acts of Kindness Contest. The 26-day contest selected a random winner each day (from over 32,000 entries!) to win 26 prizes. Olive was honored to be one of 26 companies participating. The giving didn't stop there...Daily Kibble also made a donation to the daily winners' charity of choice. Congratulations to all 26 winners!

When I first met Maya, the breeder warned me in so many words that she profiled "reserved" (read shy) and easily intimidated (meaning skittish). "Expose her to as much and as many as you can to help her socialize." I took this to mean the UPS and FEDEX delivery guys and mail carrier would more than suffice for daily interaction. Today, almost 3 years later, she's comfortable with people, does well in new situations, but is still jumpy. Stuck out in the country the way we are, life is probably a little too mundane and her exposure to sights and city sounds is limited, if none.
She barks at the slightest sounds- oven being turned on, a frond brushing the window- to the point that it's a constant cacophony of ruffs, yaps and yips. Unnerving to say the least, not to mention the dissension it creates in the household. We tried alot of (humane) things, but nothing worked like Calm Shen. The results - nothing short of miraculous. If there's such a thing as doggie ADHD, Maya must have suffered from it. Amazingly, she seems...centered. I started adding Calm Shen to her food about a week ago, a little in the morning and a little at dinner time. The difference is almost too good to be true. Calm, collected and (almost) yip-less. A squirrel just went across the metal roof and she barked nothing. A frickin squirrel! I'm thankful for this incredible product. Harmony has been restored and Maya seems so much better for it! Now, if I could just teach her not to counter surf and sit on furniture.

Amidst all the browns, reds and oranges that are everywhere this fall, a new color is cropping up: the color of freshly grown dog and cat gardens - a bright, eye-catching GREEN! Grow-your-own catnip and dog and cat grasses provide a healthy and natural alternative to treats and chews.
Pet grass offers both nutritional and digestive benefits. As a super food, one pound of pet grass is equivalent to 23 pounds of fresh fruits and garden vegetables, in terms of overall nutritional value. Wheat grass - which contains no wheat gluten - is rich in essential vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in chlorophyll, which acts as a detoxifier, mild antibiotic and deodorizer. Organic catnip is a wonderful herb that can boost the mental health of cats and help relieve boredom. What better way to celebrate fall then by adding a little green?

We know, it's Halloween. Right about now, we should be stocking pet costumes, guaranteed to make you overdose on cute. Chances are, your dog won't like wearing them and you'll feel a twinge of guilt for subjecting them to it. Also, it's safe to say they're all pretty cheaply made in some far off place.
That's not to say we completely poo-pooed Halloween. We've plenty seasonal treats and handcrafted toys. More than enough to really treat your dog.
