Tiziana Agnello is the Founder of Brooklyn-based brand LoveThyBeast. After a successful career as a prop stylist, she was inspired to create her own line of pet products. She started her company with the Canvas Pet Tote, after discovering that “nothing on the market was large enough for my then petite pug Gzigzia”. Love Thy Beast’s mission is to manufacture US-made pet products using locally-sourced materials and craftsmanship. Tiziana recently adopted a beautiful pug named Orzo, pictured below.

Summer is almost over and the kids are back to school. Their leaving can be bittersweet for the family dog. He's weathered hair pulls, table-scrap-overload, half-body burials at the beach, and high decibel shrieks -and so have you for that matter. Still, he's going to miss his human buddies. Even if you don't have kids, times of transition can lead to confusion and stress, sometimes even the blues.
Separation anxiety has various degrees of severity. Severe cases may require desensitization training to the rituals of leaving the house. Veterinarian prescribed medication may be necessary, or natural remedies such as Bach Rescue Remedy or Dr. Harvey's Relax can help, as long as they're accompanied by behavior modification and plenty rewards. Every dog and every solution is different. For some, distractions like toys may be just what she needs to take her mind off the annual back-to-school ritual.

Ah, the simple joy of car rides. Most dogs thrill at it, but as exhilarating as this experience can be for your pooch, there are some serious risks to the sport. Unrestrained pets cause roughly 30,000 accidents every year.
Melissa Ramirez, founder of Zerimax Doggie Seatbelts, tells a story that is sadly all too familiar. In 2008, her husband was in a car accident. The impact caused the airbags to inflate and her husband was unharmed thanks to his seatbelt. Max, their Miniature Pinscher, asleep on the front seat, was unrestrained and not so lucky. He was thrown across the car and landed at the foot peddles, suffering a spinal cord hematoma and paralysis of the back legs. Max is regaining his ability to use all four legs after countless surgeries and months of physical therapy. So far, Melissa calculates they've spent about $10,000 on Max's recovery. Something, she admits, might have been avoided with a simple $22 pet restraint.

I remember the first time I saw a FOUND leash. I was jogging through Pease Park in Austin. A man was leading his German Shepard with what looked like the gnarliest leash I'd ever seen. It was completely rustic, yet so cool. Olive was a fledgling business at the time - I knew we had to have it. What started as a chance sighting some six years ago has since turned into one of the deepest and most committed relationships. Olive's Found My Animal Collection has grown from just one lead to a designated collection of leads, collars, coats, bandanas, accoutrements and now beds and human jewelry. We couldn't be more proud of Found and its visionary leader Bethany Obrecht. Not to mention, we're so very tickled when from time to time she asks Olive's input.

Sniff it. Most dogs do. A quick whiff alerts them something is ok or not so ok. Similarly, a simple sniff test will suffice if you are checking out plastic pet toys. Toys made from PVC often stink and may have additives like lead, cadmium, or phthalates, a cheap plasticizer that disrupts hormones. Instead, choose pet toys made out of natural fabrics like wool, natural rubber, hemp, or organic cotton. Toys made in USA, like our retro toy collection, are generally a safer bet too.
