Happy First Birthday to our Zany boy!

Boy, these 10 months have flown. Zane had a pretty good birthday this month.

Zane as a baby through today

We ran around in a friend's HUGE yard, still covered in lots of snow. It was great fun to chase and catch snowballs - he loves snow!  Once home, he got to play with the snuffle mat (see how to make one HERE) and the Snoop, both filled with yummy treats like Polkadog Bakery Lucky Duck Training Bits and Bellyrubs All Natural Wild Salmon.

A marrow bone (keep those teeth clean!) after breakfast, a little bacon for lunch, then kibble with some bacon fat for dinner. He also got a new, large Toppl to celebrate his big boy status.  I think he is a little sad passing his old small one to his little sister, Cora, though.

The highlight, though, was a delicious peanut butter/zucchini pupcake with cream cheese frosting!  While he did NOT like the lit candle, the cake itself disappeared quickly. I think our sweet boy had a great day!

Here is the recipe we used for Zane's dog birthday cake

Adapted from this AllRecipes doggie cake recipe

* 1 egg

* 1/4 cup peanut butter (make sure it does NOT include Xylitol, which is toxic to dogs)

* 1/4 cup cooking oil

* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

* 1 cup shredded zucchini

* 1 cup whole wheat or white flour

* 1 teaspoon baking soda

* Cream cheese or peanut butter for frosting (I used about 1 teaspoon per pupcake)

Makes 8 cupcakes

* Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease or line a cupcake tin.

* Combine the egg, peanut butter, oil, and vanilla in a large bowl; blend well. Stir in the zucchini and mix thoroughly. Sift together the flour and baking soda and fold into the wet mixture. Spoon batter into prepared cupcake tin.

* Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes. Let cake cool in pan for 10 minutes; then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

* Add a swirl of cream cheese or peanut butter on each pupcake as frosting before serving.
